U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman and EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström met this week regarding the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). According to a readout posted by the European Commission, both sides agreed to intensify the pace of TTIP negotiations and emphasized the need for progress during technical discussions that will precede the next TTIP round, which is tentatively scheduled for October. Last week the European Commission proposed a new investment court system for TTIP that drew criticism from several U.S. business interests.

Malmström was also scheduled to meet with Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack during her U.S. visit.
