USDA Undersecretary for Trade
U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue recently announced a reorganization of USDA that includes the appointment of an undersecretary for trade and foreign agricultural affairs. USMEF issued the following statement in support of this announcement: USMEF strongly supports Secretary Perdue’s establishment of an undersecretary for trade and foreign agricultural affairs within USDA, in accordance with the 2014 farm bill. USMEF was an early supporter of this initiative and we feel this will be a very positive addition to the department. We look forward to further details regarding this appointment. UPDATE: On July 19, President Trump nominated Ted McKinney to serve in this position. McKinney is currently director of the Indiana Department of Agriculture, and previously worked in corporate affairs for Dow AgroSciences and Elanco. During his time with Elanco, McKinney served on the USMEF Executive Committee. UPDATE: The Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry has set McKinney’s confirmation hearing for Sept. 19. UPDATE: The Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry reported favorably on McKinney’s nomination on Oct. 2 and he was confirmed by full Senate on Oct. 3.
