The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) announced this week that the next ministerial-level round of Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations will be held July 28-31 in Hawaii. The ministerial-level talks will be preceded by chief negotiator meetings, which begin July 24.
Bilateral TPP talks between the United States and Japan resumed this week in Tokyo. Negotiations concluded Friday, July 10, but informal discussions may extend into the weekend. Acting USTR Wendy Cutler told reporters that the two sides were able to further narrow their differences on agricultural market access and automobile trade, and had “identified a pathway toward reaching an agreement.”
Bringing the TPP negotiations to a successful conclusion was also among the goals discussed in a July 7 meeting between President Obama and Vietnamese General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. More details from their meeting are available online.
