Senate Appropriations Committee Votes to Lift Credit Ban on Ag Exports to Cuba

In its recent markup of the Fiscal Year 2017 Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Bill, the Senate Appropriations Committee approved an amendment that would lift the ban on U.S. banks and other companies offering credit for export of agricultural products to Cuba.

The amendment also seeks to repeal the ban on any ship that has docked in Cuba from loading or unloading freight in the U.S. for 180 days. More details on the amendment, which was approved on a 22-8 vote, are available in this news release from Sen. John Boozman (R-Arkansas), who co-sponsored the amendment with Sen. Jon Tester (D-Montana).
