TITLE: Science-Based Trade

WHEREAS, Global meat trade continues to grow and it is critical to the financial success of U.S. agriculture; and

WHEREAS, Global trade is facilitated by the recognition of international standards and guidelines that ensure human, animal and food safety; and

WHEREAS, U.S. exports continue to face market disruptions that stem from unscientific policies put in place by governments of trading partners; and

WHEREAS, U.S. exporters recognize that in some circumstances, U.S. import policies diverge from scientific principle; and

WHEREAS, Situations where U.S. import policies exist that are considered to be unscientific result in difficulties in the ability to resolve export issues,

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, USMEF strongly supports science-based trade policies for imports and for exports; and

LET IT BE FURTHER RESOLVED, USMEF, in cooperation with our membership, strongly supports related trade associations in requesting that the U.S. government adhere to the same science-based principles that we request our trading partners to recognize
