USMEF Program Connects Importer/Distributors to End-users in Peru, Chile

Published: Nov 26, 2024

Two recent events in Lima, Peru, and Santiago, Chile, attracted 13 importer/distributors and more than 275 restaurant owners, purchasing managers and chefs interested in learning how U.S. red meat can improve their profitability. Called US Meat Connect, the program was developed to connect and introduce importer/distributors to potential foodservice buyers of U.S red meat in both markets. Importer/distributors staffed booths and had opportunities to display product.

USMEF also provided two operational presentations at each event for foodservice and 12 separate tasting sessions that promoted U.S. beef and pork in a variety of local dishes.

At the Lima event, USMEF also included a special pork station promoting roasted U.S. pork loin. USMEF has conducted research and worked with distributors in Lima to position U.S. pork loin as an alternative to roasted chicken commonly used in a traditional Peruvian dish.

Funding for the events was provided by the Beef Checkoff Program and the National Pork Board.

The Lima and Santiago events each included two presentations, including this one on the benefits of portioned meat by USMEF member SYSCO International Food Group.

Booths were provided for the 13 U.S. beef and pork importer/distributors who participated.

At one of 12 tasting sessions held in Lima, roasted pork loin was promoted as an alternative to roasted chicken in a popular Peruvian dish.
