USMEF Statement on Passage of 2018 Farm Bill

Published: Dec 13, 2018

On Dec. 12 the U.S. House of Representatives approved the 2018 Farm Bill Conference Report. With the Senate having approved the legislation on Dec. 11, the Farm Bill now moves to President Trump's desk for approval.

U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) President and CEO Dan Halstrom issued the following statement:

USMEF thanks the senators and representatives who supported the new Farm Bill, and the Senate and House leadership for ensuring that the legislation was voted on by the end of the year.

The new Farm Bill contains many provisions that are critical to the success and competitiveness of American agriculture. One important aspect of the legislation is its continued support for international promotion of U.S. agricultural products, as the bill maintains funding for the USDA Market Access Program and the USDA Foreign Market Development Program. Support from these programs is an important tool for expanding global demand for U.S. pork, beef and lamb, as well as many other U.S. products.
