TITLE: Improved Approach to Meat Market Access Issues

WHEREAS, Exports are a critical factor in the continued economic health of the U.S. red meat industry; and

WHEREAS, The industry can achieve its export potential only by keeping markets open; and

WHEREAS, The red meat industry relies on the U.S. government to resolve market access issues by constructively engaging its counterparts in importing countries; and

WHEREAS, Responsibility for agricultural trade is shared by several agencies at USDA and USTR and, at times, this complicates and lengthens the process of resolving red meat market access issues,

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, USMEF and its members support efforts to improve the accountability, efficiency and effectiveness of the U.S. government’s system for engaging importing countries to resolve red meat market access issues by enhancing communication and coordination among the agencies with responsibility for agricultural trade.
