TITLE: | FTA Equivalency |
WHEREAS, | FTAs are proliferating around the world, and important for advancing trade; and |
WHEREAS, | Some FTAs propose tariff concessions on significant quantities of foreign pork; and |
WHEREAS, | Lower tariffs on foreign pork into third-countries would put the U.S. pork industry and pork exporters at a price disadvantage vs. their foreign counterparts; and |
WHEREAS, | Lower tariffs on pork products will stimulate increased pork imports and the triggering of pork safeguards, |
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, | USMEF will work with industry partners to ask the U.S. government to pursue FTA and multilateral negotiations that will assure that U.S. pork exports are allowed into foreign markets under conditions no less favorable than those granted to third countries. |
