Export Requirements for EU Updated to Reflect Allowable Uses for Recycled Hot Water

This week FSIS updated its Export Requirements for the European Union to reflect the recently approved EU regulation authorizing the use of recycled hot water in intervention systems on slaughter floors.

Regulation 2015/1474, which was approved by the European Commission in late August and took effect Sept. 18, allows for use of recycled hot water on beef, pork, bison and farmed game carcasses and half carcasses, but only prior to their entry into the carcass cooler or hot box. Provided they meet all other requirements for export to the EU, carcasses or half carcasses treated with recycled hot water on or after Sept. 18 can be certified for export by FSIS. However, exporters should carefully review the specific conditions under which recycled hot water may be used and the minimum HACCP requirements outlined in the Export Library.

USMEF is seeking more information on how certain requirements in this regulation will be interpreted for export certification by FSIS. We will provide further guidance to exporters as this information is received. If you have questions, please email Cheyenne McEndaffer or call 303-623-6328.
