The European Union and Japan held their 11th round of free trade agreement negotiations this week in Tokyo – the last set of meetings planned in 2015.

The two sides had set a goal of concluding negotiations by the end of this year, but EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström told Japanese media outlets that they remain far apart on many issues – including automobile tariffs and agricultural market access – and talks will continue “well into next year.”
