Dan Halstrom Highlights Latest Export Results on This Week in Agribusiness 

USMEF President and CEO Dan Halstrom recently joined This Week in Agribusiness host Mike Pearson for a discussion of the latest export results for U.S. pork and beef. Halstrom also details efforts to promote underutilized beef cuts as the U.S. industry looks to fulfill buyers’ needs during a time of lower beef production.

Coverage of Central America’s Surging Demand for U.S. Pork 

Many ag media outlets featured coverage of USMEF’s efforts to expand demand for U.S. pork in Central America. The report included an update from Lucia Ruano, USMEF representative in the region, on consumer education programs – funded by USDA and the National Pork Board – that have helped bolster U.S. pork’s presence in the retail and foodservice sectors. Coverage of USMEF’s Involvement in USDA Trade Mission to Korea

USMEF recently assisted in arranging activities for the delegation taking part in a USDA trade mission to South Korea, which was led by Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs Alexis Taylor. Highlights from the trade mission included tours of an E-Mart Traders Wholesale Club and a Lotte Mart store, where delegates observed in-store sampling promotions of U.S. beef and pork. USMEF staff also participated in a USDA-led roundtable discussion about the Korean market.

Agriculture of America Segment on Strong February Exports

USMEF President and CEO Dan Halstrom joined Agriculture of America host Jesse Allen for a live discussion of the latest red meat export results. He noted that pork exports continued to show broad-based growth, while beef export value was also up significantly from a year ago.

Nebraska Rancher Rosemary Anderson Featured on Successful Farming Podcast

Nebraska rancher and former USMEF Executive Committee member Rosemary Anderson was recently the featured guest on Successful Farming’s 15 Minutes with a Farmer podcast. One of the topics Anderson addresses is the importance of being involved with industry organizations, recapping how much she learned through her leadership positions with USMEF, the Nebraska Beef Council and Nebraska Cattlemen.

USMEF Africa Representative Matt Copeland was featured on a USDA Radio report, discussing the agency’s recent agribusiness trade mission to Angola and the potential this market holds for U.S. red meat exports.

Dan Halstrom Discusses Surging Pork Exports to Mexico on U.S. Farm Report

U.S. Farm Report contributor Chip Flory recently featured Mexico’s tremendous demand for U.S. pork in his “Chip’s Corner” segment, which included comments from USMEF President and CEO Dan Halstrom. In the interview, Halstrom explains that Mexico has evolved from mostly being a destination that took hams for further processing into a high-value market for a wider range of cuts – including pork loins.

Erin Borror Shares Agricultural Trade Insights on Illinois Farm Bureau Podcast 

Taking Stalk is a new podcast produced by the Illinois Farm Bureau (IFB). Erin Borror, USMEF vice president of economic analysis, was featured on the podcast’s second episode. She joined IFB President Brian Duncan and Mark Wilson, an Illinois farmer and secretary-treasurer of the U.S. Grains Council, to discuss the current state of agricultural trade and the challenges U.S. exporters face as they look to expand and diversify international markets.

Coverage of USMEF's Participation in Pennsylvania Ag Expo 

Joe Schuele, USMEF vice president of communications, recently addressed Pennsylvania pork producers and other industry leaders at the PennAg Expo, held in Lebanon, Pa. He gave an update on the important contribution exports provide to producers’ bottom line, as well as an overview of global pork trade and a status report on U.S. pork’s primary competitors.

Korea’s Strong Demand for U.S. Pork Detailed in National Hog Farmer

In a guest column for National Hog Farmer magazine, USMEF discusses the factors driving excellent demand for U.S. pork in South Korea. In 2023, pork exports to Korea were 9% above the previous year at 191,262 mt, the third largest on record, while export value was the second highest on record at $633.4 million (up 4%).

 January was a strong month for U.S. red meat exports and USMEF President and CEO Dan Halstrom discussed the month’s highlights with AgriTalk Host Chip Flory, Agriculture of America Host Jesse Allen and AgDay Anchor Clinton Griffiths:

Longtime Industry Leader Lou Lamoreux Honored by Prairie Farmer

Lou Lamoreux, who for several years represented feedgrain producers on the USMEF Executive Committee, was honored by Prairie Farmer magazine as a 2024 Master Farmer. Lamoreux and his wife Sue live near Lanark, Ill., where their family operation raises cattle, corn, soybeans, wheat and hay.

In addition to his service to USMEF, Lamoreaux has held leadership positions in the Illinois corn and soybean industries and is currently vice chair of the checkoff division of the Illinois Beef Association.

Randy Spronk Discusses Global Meat Trade on This Week in Agribusiness 

Hosts Mike Pearson and Max Armstrong opened a recent edition of This Week in Agribusiness by interviewing USMEF Chair Randy Spronk from the trade show floor at Commodity Classic. Spronk recapped the 2023 performance of U.S. red meat exports, which included a pork export value record. He also addressed the importance of variety meat exports for adding value to every animal raised and emphasized the need for the U.S. to be more aggressive in securing global market access.

Randy Spronk Speaks with AgDay on Importance of Market Access 

USMEF Chair Randy Spronk recently spoke with AgDay TV’s Michelle Rook about the need to reduce trade barriers for U.S. red meat. He encouraged U.S. trade officials to be more aggressive in pursuing free trade agreements that will expand market access for U.S. products.
