Zika Fumigation Not Required for Refrigerated Containers Entering China

It has been reported through some industry sources that customs officials in China are requiring fumigation of containers entering China if the container originated from a country with the Zika virus. The fumigation requirement is designed to prevent the spread of the Zika virus via mosquitoes.

USMEF staff in the region and USDA-Beijing have confirmed that fumigation is not required on refrigerated containers from the United States, as well as from other countries. USMEF will report further on this issue as more information becomes available. Exporters with questions may email Paul Clayton or call 303-623-6328.
