This week FSIS announced the availability of an updated version of its compliance guideline on documentation needed to support animal-raising claims (such as raised without antibiotics, raised without the use of hormones, organic, grass-fed or free-range) on product labels. Comments on the updated guidance document are being accepted through Dec. 5. More details on this proceeding and instructions for filing comments are available in this Federal Register notice.
FSIS is conducting a similar proceeding regarding its compliance guidance for labeling claims stating that bioengineered or genetically modified ingredients or animal feed were not used in the production of meat, poultry or egg products. As noted in the Federal Register, comments on this guidance document are due Oct. 24.
Exporters with questions about these proceedings may email Paul Clayton or call 303-623-6328.
