U.S. Pork Access to Brazil

Following a March 19, 2019 meeting between President Trump and Brazilian President Jair Messias Bolsonaro, the White House issued this joint statement, which noted that the United States and Brazil agreed to science-based conditions to allow for the importation of U.S. pork.

U.S. officials have been working some time to finalize access for U.S. pork exports to Brazil, and USMEF will report further on this issue as more information becomes available. In 2018 Brazil imported about 1,600 mt of pork valued at $16.2 million, mainly from Spain and Italy. While Brazil currently has ample supplies of domestic pork raw material, importers have expressed interest in U.S. processed pork products.
