U.S. Beef Net Sales Move Higher; Slow Week for Pork

Weekly-Beef-Exports-Sales

U.S. beef exports for the week of May 8-14 totaled 11,800 mt, up 2 percent from the previous four-week average. Shipments were larger for Japan (3,600 mt, +17 percent), Mexico (1,800 mt, +17 percent), Hong Kong (1,400 mt, +10 percent), Canada (1,100 mt, +4 percent) and Taiwan (730 mt, +12 percent), while exports slowed for South Korea (2,400 mt, -3 percent).

Beef net sales were 18,800 mt, up 35 percent from the previous four-week average. Larger sales were reported for Hong Kong (6,500 mt, +133 percent), Japan (3,900 mt, +14 percent), Korea (3,000 mt, +18 percent) and Mexico (1,800 mt, +2 percent), while bookings slowed for Canada (1,500 mt, -7 percent) and Taiwan (900 mt, -27 percent).

Weekly-pork-Exports-Sales

Pork exports totaled 18,200 mt, down 12 percent from the previous four-week average, with slower shipments to most major destinations including Mexico (5,900 mt, -54 percent), Japan (3,200 mt, -7 percent), Korea (2,200 mt, -30 percent), China (1,700 mt, -11 percent) and Hong Kong (540 mt, -19 percent). Exports trended higher for Canada (1,900 mt, +18 percent).

Pork net sales were 11,200 mt, down 42 percent from the previous four-week average. Bookings slowed for Mexico (2,900 mt, -14 percent), Japan (1,700 mt, -59 percent), Canada (1,300 mt, -37 percent), Korea (1,200 mt, -40 percent) and Hong Kong (450 mt, -31 percent). Sales trended higher for Colombia (900 mt, +45 percent), China (500 mt, +160 percent) and Honduras (460 mt, +22 percent).
