The White House released its Fiscal Year 2017 budget proposal Feb. 9. Under this proposal, the USDA Market Access Program (MAP) and Foreign Market Development (FMD) program would receive $200 million and $34.5 million, respectively, for FY 2017 as authorized by the 2014 Farm Bill. The President’s budget proposal also includes $196.6 million in funding for the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service, which is a $5 million increase over FY 2016. The House Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee held its first budget hearings Feb. 11. Senate Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee hearings are also expected to begin soon.
