Thousands of feedgrain and oilseed producers from across the nation gathered in New Orleans this week for the 2016 Commodity Classic – the annual convention and trade show for the American Soybean Association, National Corn Growers Association, National Sorghum Producers, National Association of Wheat Growers and Association of Equipment Manufacturers. USMEF’s trade show booth drew considerable traffic throughout the event, as producers collected information on the important contribution U.S. red meat exports make to their bottom lines.

“When you look at the history of the Commodity Classic, it just seems to get bigger and better each and every year,” said Bruce Schmoll, a soybean and corn producer from Claremont, Minnesota, who serves as USMEF chair-elect. “Trade show attendance has been outstanding, and that gives us a great opportunity to speak with producers about the important work of USMEF and how much we appreciate their support. While some already understand and appreciate the positive impact red meat exports have on their operations, many do not. So there’s a lot of producer education still to be done, and this is a terrific venue for it.”

Schmoll also conducted several media interviews with farm broadcasters and other reporters covering Commodity Classic. On the event’s final day (Saturday, March 5) he will join USMEF executive committee members Lou Lamoreux and John Hagenbuch in hosting an appreciation luncheon for representatives of USMEF member organizations and other feedgrain and oilseed sector leaders. The luncheon is sponsored by Syngenta.
