USMEF Develops Pork Variety Meat Photo Guidebook

Published: Dec 04, 2012
A new photo guidebook that provides general descriptions of U.S. pork variety meat cuts popular in international markets has been produced by USMEF with funding from the Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council and the USDA Market Access Program (MAP), and in-kind support from the Nebraska Corn Board, Seaboard Foods, Triumph Foods, Colorado State University and the National Pork Board.

The 40-page booklet is a ready reference that displays and explains the products available. Importers then can obtain product specs from exporters. It is a companion piece to the U.S. Beef Variety Meat Cuts International Guide produced earlier this year.

“There is a need for resources like these that provide high-quality photos to depict variety meat cuts that are in high demand in our export markets,” said Paul Clayton, USMEF senior vice president of technical services. “The Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council stepped forward to make this pork guide possible, just as Colorado Beef Council did for the beef guide.”

In addition to making the booklets available to its exporter members, USMEF also will utilize the images and product descriptions in key export markets to develop customized versions to help U.S. red meat importers.

The guide may be viewed on the USMEF website.

Copies of the USMEF pork variety meat booklet are available for $10 each. Payment may be made by check to:
