Published: Apr 17, 2015

USMEF President and CEO Philip Seng was a featured speaker at this week’s Meat Industry Management Conference hosted by the North American Meat Institute (NAMI) in Carlsbad, California.

Seng provided attendees with USMEF’s outlook for red meat exports in the year ahead, identifying growth opportunities and highlighting the additional value international markets deliver to the entire U.S. supply chain while also addressing the intense competition we face in key markets. He also discussed a number of other significant challenges such as the first-quarter slowdown resulting from West Coast port congestion, market access barriers and the strength of the U.S. dollar versus the currencies of key customers and competitors.

These were also among the topics addressed in a panel discussion titled Priorities and Pressures for the North American Meat and Livestock Industry. Seng served as a panelist for this session along with National Pork Producers Council Vice President of Industry Relations Dallas Hockman, American Sheep Industry Association Executive Director Peter Orwick and National Cattlemen’s Beef Association CEO Forrest Roberts.
