Two USMEF buyer teams converged on Des Moines, Iowa, for lunch with the Iowa Corn Promotion Board and USMEF members on Wednesday.

Both teams toured U.S. packing plants, supermarkets and restaurants. The highlight was a meeting at the Iowa Corn Promotion Board headquarters in Johnston, Iowa, where District 9 Director Wayne Humphries (fourth from right in front row above), a pork and corn producer, gave the teams details on the 2013 projected Iowa corn yield and an overview of Iowa corn and pork production. Humphries emphasized the importance of the corn and pork industries as sustainable farming for rural Iowa.

The first team, led by USMEF’s Sabrina Yin, included seven buyers from Australia and New Zealand.
