Key Topic – PEDV
– Since being discovered in the United States in 2014, porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) has not led to new restrictions on U.S. pork exports to major markets. Uzbekistan
suspended imports of U.S. pork and Costa Rica
has banned imports of U.S. pork casings only, but these measures have had very little trade impact.
On July 19, Uzbekistan reopened to U.S. pork for the first time since the 2014 closure. The effective date for product already in the pipeline is Jan. 1, 2017. There are now no PEDV-related bans on imports of U.S. pork, except for Costa Rica’s ban on U.S. pork casings.
