USMEF hosted a group of importers and retail executives from Japan this week, giving them an overview of U.S. beef and pork market trends and an update on global production, supply and demand.

At the briefing at USMEF’s Denver headquarters were representatives of the CGC Retail Group and Kanematsu Japan. CGC, one of the largest retail chains in Japan, manages more than 3,800 small and medium-sized supermarkets. According to CGC’s website, its slogan, “Fine products from all over the world,” signifies partnerships with both domestic and international suppliers.

Kanematsu, one of the largest importers and distributors in Japan, has holdings that include Kanematsu Shintoa Foods Corp., a leader in wholesale and cold storage.

Along with an update on the global meat trade, USMEF staff provided the delegation with information on USMEF’s marketing strategies and its role in international market development.
