International Accounting Manual Instructions
The International Accounting Manual is a PDF-format document with numerous embedded hyperlinks to both:
- External websites, and
- Documents housed on USMEF’s website. Some of these documents are reference items (sample reports, memos) and some are templates for your use. When you click on a link to a document, you can either open it to view it, or you can choose to save it to your computer and open it in its native application (e.g. Word or Excel).
The Manual is a large file (1.55MB), so opening it from the website can be slow. Because of this, we recommend 2 different methods to view it. For all users, how the hyperlinks work may depend on your personal settings in your internet browser (i.e. Internet Explorer or Chrome).
- Frequent Users: We recommend that you download the Manual to your computer. This will save the time to download the document each time you want to open it. Some users may prefer the “two page view” (View/Page Display/Two-Page View). When you select a hyperlink to a document, you may be given the option to either Open or Save the hyperlinked file. When you open a hyperlink to a website, it will open in your default browser. If you open a second hyperlink to a website, it will replace the first website.
- Infrequent Users: We recommend that you open the Manual within the browser. Although opening the Manual this way can be slow, this will ensure that you are always viewing the most recent version of the Manual. When you select a hyperlink to a document, you may be given the option to either Open or Save the hyperlinked file. If you select Open, or are opening a hyperlink to an external website, it will replace the Manual in the browser page. To reopen the Manual, use the browser “back” button. The Manual should reopen to the page you were previously on.
Not being able to open hyperlinks into multiple browser tabs is a limitation within Adobe Acrobat (and also in Word). We are exploring ways to improve the functionality of the Manual. If you have recommendations for improvements or additional topics to be covered in the Manual, please contact Stephen Lewis at email@example.com
