FMC Initiative Targets Congestion at Ports of Los Angeles, Long Beach

The Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) has directed Commissioner Rebecca Dye to lead an initiative aimed at finding solutions to chronic congestion issues at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. More details are available in this FMC news release.

As we reported last year, congestion at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach reached unprecedented levels during the West Coast labor impasse, and the backlog at these ports took the longest to clear after a new labor contract was reached. Congestion at these ports also delays many outbound shipments from the Port of Oakland, as vessels often arrive at Oakland after unloading cargo at Los Angeles or Long Beach.
