Travis Arp, USMEF technical services manager, discusses trade issues with delegation from the Philippines

A trade team from the Philippines traveled to Denver this week and met with representatives of USMEF.

The delegation was led by Bruce Lane, USDA-FAS program training coordinator at the University of Missouri. Attendees included:

  • Chi Ho Co, managing director of Hightower Inc., an importer of U.S. meat.
  • Jennilyn Lim managing director of Waltermart Supermarkets IGA
  • Maria Garcia, executive vice president of Dane International Commodities, a company that has worked with USMEF on joint international promotions.
  • Dela Fuente, vice president of sales and marketing for Ideal Macaroni and Spaghetti Factory Inc.

The delegation received an overview of USMEF marketing programs from Dan Halstrom, USMEF senior vice president of marketing and communications, and a trade issues update from Travis Arp, USMEF technical services manager.

In the first nine months of 2014, the U.S. exported 9,931 metric tons (mt) of beef to the Philippines valued at $45 million, increases of 11 and 7 percent respectively over 2013. U.S. pork exports for the same period totaled 31,398 mt (down 18 percent) valued at $86.6 million (down 4 percent).
