European Commission Seeks FTA Talks with Australia, New Zealand

This week the European Commission announced a new trade and investment strategy for the EU. More details from the announcement are available in this news release and this fact sheet.

The Commission specifically requests a mandate from EU member states for free trade agreement negotiations with Australia and New Zealand. The potential for FTAs with the Philippines and Indonesia is also discussed, along with the need to modernize existing FTAs with Mexico and Chile and the customs union with Turkey.
