European Commission Issues Report on TTIP Round, Proposal on Sustainable Developmen

On Nov. 6 the European Commission posted a report summarizing the most recent round of Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) negotiations, which was held in Miami Oct. 19-23.

The Commission also released a proposed TTIP chapter on sustainable development, including labor and environmental provisions (it is important to emphasize that this is only a proposed chapter, rather than terms that have been agreed to by the United States).

“The EU and the U.S. have two of the strongest sets of rules in the world for protection of workers’ rights and the environment,” said EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström. “TTIP provides the opportunity to enshrine these rules yet again in an international agreement.”

More details on the proposal are available in this European Commission press release, including a link to the full text.
