EU Trade Commissioner-designate Confirmed

This week the EU Parliament’s Committee on International Trade confirmed Cecilia Malmström of Sweden as the new EU trade commissioner. Malmström’s term is set to begin Nov. 1, when she will succeed Commissioner Karel De Gucht of Belgium.

Malmström is considered a strong advocate for the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (T-TIP), but acknowledged during her confirmation hearing that the T-TIP faces growing public opposition in Europe and a general lack of momentum.
