EU Revises Pork Heart Incision Requirement

This week the pork heart incision requirement for U.S. pork destined for the European Union was removed for all market hogs less than one year of age at the time of slaughter.

Exporters should note, however, that the requirement remains in place for animals more than one year of age (sows and boars) at the time of slaughter – and because a heart incision procedure has not been developed for animals of this age, pork derived from these animals remains ineligible for the EU.
