On Feb. 17, 2019, the U.S. Department of Commerce submitted its findings to President Trump on whether imported automobiles pose a threat to U.S. national security. Details of the report, including whether Commerce recommends imposing any additional import tariffs, are not yet known.
This issue could potentially have a significant impact on red meat trade with several key trading partners that export automobiles and auto parts to the United States. USMEF will follow the issue closely and report further when details of the Commerce Department report are available.
