Major Chinese news outlets, as well as the Chinese central government web portal www.gov.cn, reported this week that China has agreed to resume imports of Brazilian beef, following Chinese Premier Li Keqiang’s visit to Brazil. Eight Brazilian beef plants and one poultry plant have reportedly been granted access to China, while another 17 additional plants are awaiting approval. Brazilian officials predicted that shipments would begin in June.
Although beef shipments to China were suspended following Brazil’s recent BSE cases, eight Brazilian plants are currently registered in China. USMEF will provide further details as more information becomes available.
