Bahrain Update: No New Restrictions on U.S. Beef

Though small in volume, Bahrain is a key beef market for some U.S. exporters

Though small in volume, Bahrain is a key beef market for some U.S. exporters

Over the past two weeks, USMEF has provided several updates on a confusing situation in Bahrain. Rumors surfaced about a BSE-related suspension of beef imports from the United States, which created a very uncertain environment for exporters serving this market.

U.S. officials stationed in the region have now confirmed that no new restrictions are being placed on U.S. beef, and that exporters may resume normal shipments. USMEF will continue to monitor the situation, but no delays or problems are anticipated.

Bahrain is a small market for U.S. beef in volume, but is an important, high-value destination for some U.S. exporters. Through July, U.S. beef exports to Bahrain totaled 730 mt valued at $4.35 million.
