Texas Beef Council Executive Says Exports Warrant Support

At the recent Cattle Industry Convention in Nashville producers from around the country were able to learn more about many issues – including the status of various export markets and opportunities. Richard Wortham, executive vice president of the Texas Beef Council, says livestock producers should take part in export marketing discussions.

Cut #1   :14         "It’s good for… ...engaged in the process."

Wortham says there is great potential for U.S. beef producers to enhance value for their animals from the international market.

Cut #2   :29         "Ten to 12 percent… ...upside potential for us."

The Texas Beef Council recognizes the value of focusing on the international market.

Cut #3   :13         "We’ve been very… ...U.S. Meat Export Federation."

According to Wortham, the Far East still holds special opportunities for U.S. producers.

Cut #4   :18         "We’ve all been… ...in the Asian area."

The U.S. Meat Export Federation is the trade association responsible for developing international markets for the U.S. red meat industry and is funded by USDA, exporting companies, and the beef, pork, lamb, corn, sorghum and soybean checkoff programs.
