International And Domestic Consumers Deserve Top Status, U.S. Pork Producer Says

Suggested Lead: Wherever they live, consumers of U.S. pork should get the lion’s share of attention when it comes to increasing demand for the product, according to Iowa pork producer Leon Sheets, who says focus on pork consumers should be paramount.

Cut #1   :26         "Anything that you’re… ...spend the retail dollars."

According to Sheets, who has a 1,200 sow farrow-to-finish operation in Northeast Iowa, the export market is of key interest to U.S. pork producers.

Cut #2   :27        "We’ve seen an… ...for the export market."

Sheets says the work the U.S. Meat Export Federation does for all meats has an impact on him as a pork producer.

Cut #3   :15         "If we are able… ...area to be consumed."

According to Sheets, producers of all meat products need to maintain vigilance on food production issues as they seek to increase demand worldwide.

Cut #4   :32         "We’ve done a… ...integrity of the product."

The U.S. Meat Export Federation is the trade association responsible for developing international markets for the U.S. red meat industry and is funded by USDA, exporting companies, and the beef, pork, lamb, corn, sorghum and soybean checkoff programs.
